The navy will be presenting hundreds of namesake communities, both large and small with framed and matted displays featuring photographs of the navy ship or ships associated with them. A short history of the ship, the ship’s badge, battle of honours and the Canadian Naval Centennial identifier have all been include in the presentation suitable for permanent display. These presentations will be placed in city halls, community centres, theatres and museums across Canada in commemoration of the Royal Canadian Navy during its Centennial recognition.

The presentations are an effort to create a bond between the namesake city and the ship’s company. The Royal Canadian Navy writes more in June, 2010′s The Camrose Canadian. Read the full post here.

The early 1900′s was the beginning of the efforts to establish a Canadian naval service and was first introduced in the House of Commons on March 29, 1909. Although it was rejected, in 19190 a resolution was again brought before the house under the name of the Naval Service Bill. It received royal assent on May 4, 1910. Ruth Lefler reminisces about the Brantford effort’s in a May, 2010 article in the Brantford expositor. Read more here.
