This being the 60th Anniversary of the Brant Naval Veterans’ Association, we would like to honour a life member named Erie JONES.
Ernie joined the Royal Navy as a boy Seaman at the age of 16.
Ernie served in the Pacific in the area of Singapore until the ships of the fleet which most were destroyed by the Japanese; however, Ernie was fortunate to survive this disaster and returned to England where he found out that he was being returned to the Pacific area.
Therefore he decided to volunteer for a Royal Navy Commando Unit. After much training he was sent to the Mediterranean and as a commando landed on the beaches of Sicily and after that to the invasion of Italy.
Ernie was lucky to come through all this virtually unscathed.
After the war Ernie immigrated to Canada, joined the Naval Association and became a life member after 25 years.
Every Friday Ernie can be found in the club chatting with other veterans and many of his friends. To this day Ernie has a sense of humour that keeps all his friends laughing.
